Preparing for Takeoff

In the words of Hafiz, “You carry / All the ingredients / To turn your life into a nightmare– / Don’t mix them! / You have all the genius / To build a swing in your backyard / For God. / That sounds / Like a hell of a lot more fun. / […] / You carry all the ingredients / To turn our existence into joy, / Mix them, mix them!”

Today’s the big day. I’m all packed. It might freak you out to know how heavy and full the left suitcase is. I FIT MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THE NEXT YEAR INTO TWO SUITCASES! Helloooo overweight fees.

The last week or so has been a whirlwind of readying and saying goodbye.

Some highlights:

Sydney and I at Astoria's Socrates Sculpture Park, right before getting caught in a heavy rain.

At the Highline; our parents were there too but they are afraid of the interwebs.

Seeing our oldest friends and spending a great day in Huntington Village.

Last Wednesday, I also performed for the last time (for now!) at an Inspired Word open mic…

Few things have made me feel so exhilarated, fulfilled and alive. I’ve got to find a community in Central Europe as beautiful and supportive as what I’ve found here.

I also needed to say goodbye to my favorite foods. Here is my going away dinner.

matzoh ballNew York, it’s been great. But I’m excited for my adventure to come.
