This travel and expat life blog chronicles my life and experiences as an American expat in Czech Republic (2014-2018) and, since August 2018, Denmark.
Wondering where to start?
I recently wrote a review of CHLOHEMIAN’s most popular posts after nearly 6 years of blogging about travel, culture and language faux pas, and the nature of being a serial (or as I like to call it, “professional”) expat.
What a ride it’s been – by bus, train, car, and plane – since I arrived in Czech Republic in August 2014. I was just in time for the school year to start, and rightfully so, as I was there to become a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to students between 11 and 19 years old.
It was an incredible and immersive experience that turned my minor travel bug into a chronic condition.
It also helped me realize how important it is for us as human beings to develop the crucial skills of cultural understanding and cross-cultural communication.
Here you can find posts on travel in Czech Republic, travel in such far-ranging places from Plovdiv to Palestine, being an ESL teacher in a foreign country, culture shock, and social anxiety. I’ll be gradually adding posts about Danish sites and culture.
More broadly, you’ll find everything from travel guides and highlights to retellings of one too many expat faux pas and all those funny moments of life that make it worth living.
The more I lean into this crazy little expat existence, the more I realize the journey is my attempt to be at home everywhere. I hope you enjoy watching me try it.
